Your dentist can perform a variety of procedures to improve your smile, from subtle change to major repairs. There are many techniques and options to threat teeth. Most common procedures are bleaching, crowns, veneers, bonding, dental implants, reshaping and contouring.

They are not all for cosmetic purposes; many of them can improve your oral problems, such as your bite.

Bleaching

Bleaching is the most used procedure for whitening the teeth. It’s a chemical procedure which is used to remove the stains or to simply whiten the teeth. Discoloration usually happens from cigarettes, coffee, or in some cases it’s caused by medicine. The newest bleaching technique is laser bleaching, but as we heard that is not good for your teeth because it weakens the structure of the tooth. Usually bleaching procedure takes one to two weeks with a daily therapy of 45minutes to one hour, depending on the desired shade you wish to achieve.

Bonding

Bonding is an one day procedure used to change the colour or the fill in gaps. After it’s done, it can last for few years. It can be used to fill in the gaps between teeth or to cover the whole outside surface of a tooth to change its colour and shape.

Crowns

Crowns also known as caps cover the tooth to restore its normal shape and appearance. Because they are expensive this procedure is mostly avoid unless the other procedures are not effective. Crowns have the longest endurance but the procedure for their placement takes a lot of time.

Veneers

Veneers are pieces of plastic or porcelain which are placed on the front of the teeth. They are mostly used on teeth which are oddly shaped, discoloured, unevenly shaped, crooked or they have a uneven surface. Veneers are used to treat some of the same problems like bonding.

Dental implants

In a simple way, the dental implants can be described as a replacement for roots or roots of a tooth. They hold the “crown” which is the part of the tooth that we see. Implants are made of titanium metal whose characteristics make the implant biocompatible, meaning that the body accepts them as its own organ.

Contouring and reshaping

And last procedure is contouring and reshaping. This procedure is used on teeth that are chipped, crooked or irregularly shaped in just one single session. Contouring may help you resolve your problem with bite. It is common for bonding to be combined with tooth reshaping.
