It is located in the north-western part of the country, and is as little as one and a half hours away by car or the super fast RailJet from the beautiful capital cities of Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. There are a number of historically important sites close to Gyor, including the Pannonhalma Abbey which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Győr is a must for those who enjoy a pampering, rejuvenating thermal spa as well as luxuriating in its indoor and outdoor pools and sauna.

5.How are thermal spas and caves used for medical purposes?

Hungary is the land of thermal water, with around 1,500 natural thermal springs, nearly half of which are used for bathing. These springs are rich in salts and minerals, and Hungarian spas have been widely used since Roman times as natural healing remedies for the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism and other motor disorders. The architecture and history of many of the bath houses are fascinating, so you'll be soaking up culture as you soak in a spa in Hungary. In the Carpathian Basin in Central Europe, where Hungary is located, the crust of the earth is very thin, so these waters rise from the core of the earth to the surface very easily.  Generally, at the baths there are several different pools of varying temperature both inside and outside. There are pampering health and beauty treatments available on site, including sauna, massage, mud mask and other rejuvenating spa services. Hungary is not only famous for its thermal baths, but also for its remarkable caves, some of which are open to the public. The two are linked: the caves were formed by thermal waters in the first place, over several millions of years. The clear, dust-free air of the cave makes the treatment of patients suffering from asthma and respiratory diseases possible. There are also salt rooms offering a natural (drug-free) remedy for asthma, sinusitis, hayfever and other respiratory illnesses.
